NewsBytes: “Feminizing” Guns, Female Football Fanatics
1) Gander Mountain is currently promoting its bubble gum pink firearms for girls and women (perhaps just in time for the holiday season?). So, what I want to know is: if you were a savvy female gun-user, and wanted the best product for yourself or your daughter, would the color pink be enough "feminization" or would you want to see a little more substantive difference between the "women’s" products and the old-faithful models? Argh. There’s a good discussion going on about this on RetailWire (reg. required).
2) The Baltimore Ravens now have a women-only fan club. They call it "Purple," and while I don’t love that name (it’s too close to "pink" for me), Jackie Huba, my most fanatical NFL fan friend (her team is the Steelers) who also happens to be the co-author of Citizen Marketers, thinks the club does include some great elements, as per her post. Some of the things she cites would probably work well for a men’s version of the club too. Anyway.. as Jackie told me in an email:
I can tell you that if there was a women-only fan club for the Steelers and members could spend a day learning plays right on Heinz Field, meeting players and getting autographs, and going into the locker room, I would sign up in moment and fly back to Pittsburgh for every event. These would be experiences of a lifetime!!
Anybody listening over at the NFL?…
