Should It Matter If Men or Women Use More Words?
Who talks more? There is the gender stereotyped answer, and there is the research - which still doesn’t seem to add up. Case in point: Either women talk way more than men (20,000 words to 7,000 words - as cited in The Female Brain) or they don’t (16,125 to 15,669 - as cited in Science Magazine). The reality is that research can be flawed and measuring the word usage of a representative sample can be pretty difficult.
So -
Should we spend more time and money clarifying this, or just proceed with learning more about what our various, unique markets are talking about and how passionately they are doing that? You know what gets my vote.
