NewsBytes: Green Biz Bubble(?) and A Man and His Brands
1) A friend pointed me to this article/post by Joel Makower on whether or not there is a green business bubble. A few of his points about why green isn’t a bubble could be just as easily applied to the women’s market. For example, take Makower’s #3 (parens indicated my notes): The consumer (women) is waking up (to their influence), and #5 The environment (women) has become a fiduciary issue.
2) How do men feel about brands? Well, I love George Simpson’s take on it in today’s MediaPost commentary, "Brands Are For Cows." So,…I’ll quote:
"As a being of the male persuasion, I have brands that are sacrosanct in
my life. For example, I only buy one brand of running shoe (usually in
volume since they change "models" more often than Donald Trump). I like
Canon cameras and printers (although if they keep dropping the ink
volume in their cartridges, they will be in play in a heartbeat) and I
will simply drop over dead if they ever alter Diet Coke. But by and
large, I will try a new brand if I think it offers a better product (or
price) over what I am using now. This is why I wonder where those guys
get the idea that people LOVE brands?"
