NewsByte: Empowered Women As “-Istas”

A recent article by Philly.com’s Elizabeth Wellington considered the ways that women’s empowerment in our society is now denoted by the suffix, “-ista.” You’ve surely heard of a “fashionista,” but what about “frugalista,” for example?  What’s fun about this is that the suffix makes whatever the topic (even frugality) sassy and clever. That would seem to me to be a true modern woman’s way of being her full determined and capable self, while the more outdated woman vs. man message, “I am woman – hear me roar,” lacks humor, sass and relevance. I also think it doesn’t only apply to women’s interests/passions.  So… what’s your “-ista?”

Right now, I hope everyone is planning to be a “voterista” (hmmm.. doesn’t flow off the tongue, but you know what I mean).

  • I was a voterista on the first day of voting. I earned that title after waiting 2.5 hours in line to cast my ballot. I'm so glad I discovered your blog. I need to check out your book, too.
  • How about Multi-Taskerista?
