Pink Thinking in Techno-Land
Ahh.. Shiny Shiny has a great post about a Samsung cellphone that is targeted toward women. Though the model comes in colors like rich blue and red with, it looks like, gold trim - it still has a pink wash.
The "features" include: "a Bio rhythm indicator, a calorie counter & the infamous Pink Schedule." Yikes. These are all things I’ve just been dying to find in a phone for myself.
As Star C. Foster puts it so well in her review: "I can’t help but wonder if the fine folks at Samsung have ever met any actual women,…"

Oh, wow. How insulting. Take a look at that copy:
Samsung presents today’s fashionable and sophisticated women with the best gift ever - SGH-A400 (Egèo). The elegant look of the SGH-A400 will capture your eyes and make you feel the best. The luxurious appearance of SGH-A400 engraved with a gold rose is a beautiful symbol of your aristocratic dignity. Its small and compact design adds a warm glow in your hands like a precious gem.
Please tell me no one is buying this! It’s so bad, it must be a joke!

As a former copywriter and marketing to women expert, that copy makes me want to puke on so many different levels…
this reminds me of the ill-fated attempt in the 1950s to sell cars to women with floral upholstery.
Gag.
I’m hoping, desperately, that this is just a bad Japanese to English translation, but I have my doubts…
